Franciscan houses its visitor center in a large, redwood structure on the highway, where an 18th-century German grape press and an antique corkscrew collection arc on display. The winery produces in excess of 100,000 cases of wine annually, much of it devoted to estate-bottled varietals. including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc and Johannisberg Riesling—all made from grapes grown on two 250-acre estate vineyards, one each in Oakville, Napa Valley and Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. The winery was originally established in 1972, and is now owned by the Peter Eckes Company of West Germany. Tasting and sales daily 10am-5pm; tasting fee: $5.00-$10.00.
